At my small school basketball isn’t just a sport. Basketball here makes the whole school alive.
Students, teachers, and coaches all talk about it, and when people show up to games, it builds school spirit and makes the whole community feel connected.
It connects everyone because people come together to support the same team. Students, teachers, and families all share the same excitement, talk about the games, and cheer their team on together, which makes them feel like part of one community.
This season meant a lot for me because as a freshman playing varsity I got a lot of attention and expectations. At first I felt a lot of pressure but that’s what pushed me to work extra harder and to prove myself. It helped me grow my confidence and earn the respect from older players, my coaches and the school.
This season, basketball became more than just something I played. It became a way for me to challenge myself.
Being a freshman on varsity meant I had to step up quickly and prove I could compete at a higher level. It pushed me to stay focused, work harder, and trust myself in tough situations. Basketball this year also made me feel more connected to my school, since it’s such a big part of the environment here.
In the end, it helped me grow not just as a player, but as a person, and showed me what I’m capable of.
