On December 9, the NYHS varsity team played a home game against Pope John Paul II. They won 69-25 recovering from their loss on Monday.
Their last away game on December 8 against Crosspoint Christian in Bremerton, was a loss by one point, 50-49.
Steve Bunin, the coach of the varsity boys basketball team and athletic director at NYHS, said it was disappointing to lose by that much.
“We did not come out with the intensity required for a game like that and we paid the price. We shot terribly and didn’t do the little things well either,” he said.
Even with the disappointment from the previous game, Eitan Yoav, a NYHS sophomore and small forward, had a career-high 13 points. The bench had a combined total of 22 points.
“All of the kids that were freshman and sophomores my first year here are now juniors and seniors,” Bunin said. “And with the addition of Adin Goldsmith, we have the potential for greatness.”
Both junior varsity and varsity boys basketball teams will play Providence Classical Christian on December 13.
“I’m excited for the chance to take on the team that ended our season last year in the playoffs,” Bunin said. “Providence Classical Christian is going to be a very strong test for us.”
JV’s game will start at 6:30 pm and varsity’s game will start at 8 pm. The game is always broadcasted on NFHS at the NFHS network.
“We’ve developed one of the strongest home advantages in the league, especially on Saturday nights,” Bunin said. “It gives us a ton of energy, and we hope more and more fans come out every time.”
