On Monday, February 5th, the NYHS girls’ varsity basketball team (5th seed) defeated Summit Classical Christian School (9th seed) with a final score of 32-24 in the 1B Sea-Tac league playoffs, securing a spot in the tri-districts.
The Lions had a strong start, dominating the first quarter with an impressive lead of 7-0. But throughout the following quarters, the Archers gained momentum and began accumulating points. Despite the Archers’ efforts, the Lions managed to maintain a lead throughout the game.
The game was a defensive showdown as both teams displayed strong defense skills.
Paulina Gamel and Rose Clayman, key players in Monday’s victory, showcased their exceptional skills on both ends of the court, contributing crucial points and solidifying the Lions’ defensive skills. “We came in with a positive spirit and were able to show aggressiveness,” remarked Gamel. Clayman added, “Applying everything we’ve been working on at practice this game was a key factor in securing this win.”
The team advances to the next game against Muckleshoot in the WIAA District 2 Class 1B Seatac League Playoff Game on Wednesday, February 7th, at 6:30 pm at the SHA gym.
