The NYHS Lions Boys’ Varsity team, the fourth seed in the 1B Sea-Tac District, is advancing in the playoffs after an 85-70 point win against Concordia Christian Academy, the fifth seed, at Seattle Hebrew Academy, on February 1.
Throughout the game, the score was even. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 55-53 Concordia. But the Lions came into the fourth quarter with an energy that allowed them to pull away, creating a 15-point gap. NYHS scored 32 points against Concordia Christain’s 15 points in the fourth quarter.
On Monday night, the impactful performance of two sophomore players led to the team’s success, showcasing their skills offensively and defensively. Evan Kaufthal scored a season-high 30 points and four assists. Sam Chernicoff scored 25 points and had an impressive 12 rebounds. Additionally, freshman Leon Varon secured 14 rebounds and 4 assists, and junior Joe Benoliel maintained a solid performance with 10 points and 3 steals.
This victory secures the team’s spot in the upcoming game against Muckleshoot Tribal Academy, the first seed in the 1B Sea-Tac District, on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 pm in Muckleshoot. If they win, they will advance to the district championship where they will either face Summit Classical Christian School or Sound Christian Academy.
