Coming off a massive season with a state semi-finals appearance and a divisional championship, the boy’s basketball team was on the verge of breaking apart after losing five key players. 

Last season, the Lions went into the postseason with a 15-2 record. They lost to Crosspoint in the league championship, the team they also lost both of their regular-season conference games to. The Lions then moved on to districts in which Crosspoint lost to Mount Vernon in the semi-finals and the Lions beat Mount Vernon in the finals, becoming District Champions for the first time in school history. From there, they went on to regionals where they were seeded 4th in the State Championships and made it to the semi-finals, losing to the 1 seed, making it the furthest the school boy’s team has ever gone In basketball.

 “I want us to make it a dynasty. I want us to continue to progress every year, making it to State and making it higher than fifth place. I want to go beyond that level. I want to go third place, second place, first place,” said Coach Jackson. 

This season, Jackson and the remaining players are trying to keep up the winning momentum and have another great season. Jackson thinks the team will have a great start and believes the boys will make it even further using the momentum of last year’s success. Senior team captain Daniel Negrin says the team will do well, and he is excited to lead along with the coach. 

The team began practicing and had their first game against Concrete on December 1st. The NYHS lions beat Concrete 44-31.
